There will be a German short version as soon as possible.

This post might save you a significant amount of money (200€), please consider donating a poor student a few bucks for food and equipment. I know paypal is shit but you can send me money there easily at some.individuumATgmailDOTcom. You can also shoot me an email and I will happily supply you with other ways than paypal.

The story

Starting with this year, Bochum, the city I’m living in, started to supply fiber connections to a few houses in the central part of the city. Promising up to 200 mbit/s downstream and 100 mbit/s upstream, me and my roommate decided on switching to this as soon as possible. I arranged with the owner of the house for a permit to connect the house, arranged for the technical personnel to visit and plan, talked most of the 12 inhabiting parties though the process of connecting their flat to the connection in the cellar with the friendly help of IETech from Cologne. and arranged appointments for the company to get inside to splice the remaining fiber connections. I did all this, for free, to help speeding up the process of installing the fiber connections to this house so we could disconnect our old connection via Vodaphone Germany just in time for the contracts expiry date.

As planned, with some minor disruptions like cable falling into the wall disappearing and some misunderstandings the service was fine and I was already ecstatic with the dream of faster internet connection. Last week they finally supplied the cable modem and wen thought we could just plug and play. Well… simply said we couldn’t: We were lacking the proper tools, as our router wouldn’t connect at all, there was no DHCP offer, the GPON light on the modem was indicating a problem with the fiber connection, and we were not sent any login credentials as commonly practiced by ISPs.

So we started gathering information, calling the support etc. and ended up with the following problems:

Glowing light GPON does not meen connectivity is given as the support thought first, but red light meens connection error!

The company wouldn’t supply any login credentials as they are provided inside a “encrypted” AVM Fritz!Box settings file that would be imported from a usb stick solely for the purpose of configuring the Fritz!Box as a blackbox system.

As a result of this, we would be needing to buy a fritz!box for about 200€ or rent one at the expense of 4€/per month.

Another alternative might have been to order a “specialist” for the setup at the expense of 150€ (probably even per hour)

First I have to say: The way they designed the system is not that bad. The intention was to create a plug and play system that would work for any customer at any level of technical knowledge. But as we all know, the way to hell is paved with good intentions. And as I support the ideal of open and free systems, I decided to write this blogpost. I would appreciate not to be sued. Also, I think its no way to treat a customer if he asks for his login credentials to tell him that that its not “technically possible” to do it without a Fritz!box at the moment, which I will prove wrong here.

The way it was designed to be working is as follows: A GPON cable modem, connected via ethernet to a fritzbox, which itselft would be bootet up with a stick plugged in that would contain a configuration with the required dialup data. After loading the configuration the stick can be removed and they all lived happily after.

I started with an analysis of the configuration file supplied in the usb key and ended up asking alot of people for their help with their fritz!boxes as there was a closed source tool to “uncrypt” the configuration files. As there is some kind of “save your configuration password” it might actually be crypto, but as we all know Kerckhoffs principle I wouldn’t bet on any security. As the box is able to read it on boot without a password there seems to be a way around it. But as it seems, they keep changing the format every few revisions, which resulted in the need for a fritz!box fon wlan 7390. As the german law allows to return a product withing 14 days without having to supply a reason, my roommate was so kind to order one to speed up the process.

Next I built a sniffing setup, because in the end I would have to figure out how exactly the login process would work. I bet on some pppoe mixed with some crap to prevent any other than fritzboxes to connect at all and it turned out to be pretty correct. Additionally I figured that they would be too lazy to create different usb keys for each customer and have the same login data on all the boxes. Which turned out to be true too. A nice friend of mine who also helped me with the fritzbox foo before suggested they might be using a remote-configuration protocol which, luckily, proved not to be the case.

The sniffing setup itself was built within 10 minutes from some spare hardware parts I had crawling around my apartment, the board itself is a leftover from an old cluster someone donated to me a year back. They key-point was to have 2 ethernet interfaces to build a layer2-bride . I garnished it with a backtrack live cd and started sniffing.

Technical details
As a result of another 4 hours of work, I was able to reproduce the criteria which would allow us to dial and route into Glasfaser Bochum which turns out to be Vitronet as our ISP. In the following I will provide technical details on the details that are used to filter and which aren’t (yet). The package that matters first is of course the PADI Package which is something like “hello ISP I want to dialup, please supply details on how to do this!”. There were 4 differences to a “normal” PADI package of a ddwrt-router:

Layer 2 Source MAC-Address (INFO)

PADI Source Mac-Address (INFO)

VLAN Tag (INFO)

Host-Uniq Tag (INFO – See Appendix A - 0×0103 Host-Uniq )

I separated the first two points, as only one of two matters at all for the dialup process:

The MAC of the device performing the Dialup does not matter. I bridged the Setup and did not fake the MAC-Address supplied by the device on the output interface of the bridge, but the Fritz!Box was able to dial in.

The Source Mac of the PADI Package does matter, is has to be one of AVMs. So just take one with the first bytes “24:65:11″ and add some more hex numbers to make it nice. (Or just use 24:65:11:17:A4:F0)

You will have to tag your packages with the VLAN ID 1001, I will explain later how this can be done with a linux box.

The host-uniq tag of the PADI package does not matter, but as it contains the potential to be used as another filter, I will cover it here shortly. The Tag much longer than normal and contains the mac address and the string “fritzbox”. There are no tools to fake this, but if they decide to use this in the future, I will write one and opensource it here.

You will need the login data for the pppoe dialup which turns out to be Username: “gfbo” and password: “start”.

The howto
We wanted to do this with a ddwrt flashed linksys router, but it turns out to be impossible without fiddling with the firmware. I might add a blogpost here about how to do this in the future, but at the moment our linux box does the job of routing the stuff, so don’t count on it any time soon. Also: Don’t forget you are routing proably more than 100 mbit/s (as we do here) so use gigabit ethernet interfaces and a router capable of handling this kind of traffic!

Can be achieved with the command ipconfig ethX hw ether 24:65:11:DE:AD:BE and I would recommend to set this as it solves point 2.) and doesn’t enable them filtering with it in the future.

See 1.)

On debian its really convenient that a new interface called “vlan1001″ will automatically be tagged with a vlan ID 1001. Just add this to your /etc/network/interfaces:

iface vlan1001 inet static
address 0.0.0.0
netmask 255.255.255.0
vlan_raw_device ethX
pre-up ifconfig vlan1001 hw ether 24:65:11:DE:AD:BE

You will have to install the package “vlan” to get vlan support for your system. And don’t forget to change “ethX” to the interface of your choice. If you use another distribution feel free to leave a comment with the configuration for your system.

Coming in the future.

Just install the pppoe package and run pppoeconf. This will most probably add the login data to your /etc/network/interfaces like this:

auto dsl-provider
iface dsl-provider inet ppp
pre-up /sbin/ifconfig vlan1001 up # line maintained by pppoeconf
provider dsl-provider

auto vlan1001

After this you should be able to run pon dsl-provider to dial in. You can use the plog command to check if it worked. If something didn’t work as expected, your PADI packages will time out. The login data (again) is username. “gfbo” and password “start”.

Now, if your networking is set up properly (like name resolution and the gateway configuration) you can now ping google.de or a similar host. You might want to make this box a router by adding some Network Address Translation and some firewalling is most probably a good idea too.

NAT can be added with the following command, but I won’t go into detail on this as there is more than enough good howtos on this online:

iptables -t nat -A POSTROUTING -o ppp0 -j MASQUERADE

… where ppp0 is your dialup interface. If you do firewalling, this is the interface where the data comes in, not the pysical one, so filtering there is a good idea.

I hope some people will find this post useful and as I haven’t slept and written this instead, please don’t go too hard on my typos. I might correct this maybe when there is more light than the upcoming sun I am watching here.

Hello there,

just a short post. I wrote an initscript which can save and restore rfkill switches softstates, as some systems tend to reset them on boot. I also included a toggle feature for software buttons to switch all radio on and off.

Feel free to use it if you like. Ubuntu has included something like this in their rfkill package already. Sadly this does not regard dependencies in these switches as they occur in the Thinkpad E320 I bought. So this is one of a few scripts I will publish here.

If you like them, pls share this post on twitter etc. I would also appreciate your input on this.

EDIT:

Version 1.0.1

Thanks to Mu, who reported a minor bug theres a fix included in the next version.

Removed all debug output in favour of clean output.

The script has been improved to show status messages (aka eyecandy) integrated with lsb

Hello there stranger,

Biphasic sleep pattern

this is my circadian log. As I read alot about polyphasic sleep and had some very positive experiences with rebuilding my own and other’s monophasic sleep patterns, I decided to try to change my sleep pattern from monophasic to biphasic. As a result of this I got up early at 6 o’clock in the morning. You can start reading about Polyphasic sleep patterns here, but its a short article.

As I read a book about sleep and how to improve the quality of your sleep, I decided that it would be wise to do this slowly, with multiple phases. It mostly told me, that its critical how deep and regenerating the first three hours of sleep are. I (am going to) use the following measures to imprint my new sleep pattern as efficiently as possible:

healthy food and alot of water – I started eating much more healthy, excluding red meats and eating shitloads of fruit every day. I also drink about one liter of water a day with rising tendencies.

no coffee, 7 hours before I go to bed.

at least one hour of calm before I go to bed, so my mind can ease.

drink a whole beverage of water instantly after getting up, this gets my body going.

Measure the timings right – Before I decide when I go to bed, I measure how long I need to go to sleep and how many hours of sleep I want to get. I also build in some buffer time, so that my body has time to wake up on his own. With the right timimg, I often got used to waking up a few minutes before my alarm rang in the past. I will try to make my body adopt the new pattern without the alarm. I just use it, so I will not miss the light sleep phase, where I want to get up.

Napping if I need to, but just about 15-20 minutes. Everything above 45 mins makes me feel sick the rest of the day. Loud music and lights in the room keep the sleep light. So if I have relaxed enough, my body wakes up by the music. This is a trick I invented myself, because I experienced that I tend to nap when I listen to the right music. Can’t go to sleep though with music in the evenings.

If this new rythm works for me, I would have up to 3 more hours awake per day. Least, theres this ugly question: What to do with all the additional time? If I have some good answers to that I might have a really good motivation to continue. As I already work alot, I will use the new free time for things I love. Like writing in my blog again. Maybe you realised this is the first post after nearly a year.

Beneath you will find my daily log, how I feel and how tired I am. Maybe I will find solutions to some problems, and maybe others will vanish with the time:

My Circadian Log:

Sa 25. Feb 06:48:16 - Getting up wasn’t too hard after all. My eyes were a bit dry and I acted a little uncoordinated, but nearly one hour after I got up, without coffee yet, I feel well. I have a little cold, so its not perfect, but I might like to get used to it. I intend to have my power nap at 3 pm. In the past I made some good experiences with napping at my daily low point at 5 pm. But I will first try to keep the nap in the middle of my 18 hours day.

So 26. Feb 07:26:08 CET 2012 - Today I also felt a little bit dizzy and unoriented when I got up at 6:30. Yesterday I had no big issues. I had to move the nap forward to 2pm because I got really tired, but did only nap for 20 minutes. When the day grew old, I felt this tiredness rising again. But it was perfectly fine at the right times. After all I hat some trouble falling asleep, seems like I need about 30 minutes to fall asleep instead of ~5mins which I was used to. I also hear a little hum when its really quiet, but both might be the result of a little cold I caught last weekend. After all I feel like its working and I will continue my little experiment. Have a nice day.! o/

Mo 27. Feb 06:21:36 CET 2012 - Yesterday I first noticed that my afternoon low started to bug me, I felt incredibly tired and couldn’t concentrate on math for about 3 hours. I thought about postponing this little project the first time, just until the exams are done. But I think it didn’t get me, this time. I went to bed in time and it was alot easier to fall asleep this time. Getting up at 6 was really hard this time, but I managed using alot of light and fresh cold water. Lets start with some breakfast.

Di 28. Feb 06:24:33 CET 2012 - This day starts well, as always at 6 am. I seem to adopt more and more. I feel tired, but not as disoriented as the last days and I am much more awayke during the days. I don’t freeze as much as I used to and most important: My concentration is coming back. (Or I get used to it :/ ) After all I am still convinced to try it out for a few weeks, also I am thinking if I want this as a lasting establishment, mostly because I also enjoy sleeping. But we will see. Its a little uncomfortable in the morning, but DUDE! 3 additional hours per day!

Wed Feb 29 07:16:31 CET 2012 – Today is the day of my math exam. So I will not tell really much here. Just that I got up at the right time, and feel a little dizzy because I was woken up in the night by an ex-girlfriend calling me half an hour after I got to sleep. I’m already at the university, just sipping my first coffee of the day

Do 1. Mär 16:27:40 CET 2012 – I think from today on, I can say I have fully adopted the circadian rythm. I woke up at 5:55 am without the alarm and got up, dressed and left in about 10 minutes. Ready to kick ass without any coffee I will now stop this log and write a new blogpost when I have some long term observations ready to blog.

Saturday morning, it was a sunny and warm day, one of the first in this spring. Got up at 7am , boarded the train at 8 and met my dear friend jselzer at the Bonn main station at 10 am. After struggling with the ticket machine for nearly 15 minutes, we boarded the train to Ahrweiler in the neighbour province. After approximately 40 minutes of travel along the Rhine, with a beautiful view on the landscape and the river, we arrived in the middle of nowhere, next to Ahrweiler. We found a little sign, showing the way to the bunker and followed it. And followed and followed… after 2 signs, we entered a little path leading upwards a little mountain and we found another 2 signs along the way, leading though a forest with suprisingly many people ahead. After another 5 Minutes of walking, we finally reached the entrance of the “regbu”. Hard to see from most sides, just a little building, not bigger than a row house sized for one family and a big tunnel entrace a little below.

After approximately 10 minutes of waiting, the next tour started with about 20 people and a guide who might grow too old for that job in the near future. Maybe he already was. He told alot facts about the bunker, which was build in the late 60′s out of an old railway tunnel. Soon turned out, that only the entrance was intact, and had partly been rebuilt. Most of the Bunkers inner rooms and facilities, which had originally been over 3 kilometers in the whole length, were not longer inside the the old railway tunnel. The picture on the left shows a lighted view inside the tunnel where the visitors area ended.

But the part that could be visited had been restored with alot of detail and quality. It was really great to see how such a big
facility had been controlled in these days. You can see a picture of the control panels on the side of this article. It was lighted, and just connected for show purposes, so that the visitors were allowed to press the buttons and look how the lights changed on the statuses of the many different doors. The were some rooms, intact, like toilets, bedrooms, and showers for decontamination. All of them looked exactly like those in my old highschool. Seems they haven’t been changed since the school (and the bunker) had been built. We also visited the caffetieria, which lacked the furniture but was filled with pictures and things from the original bunker.

The interesting and depressing part of the bunker visit was the fact, that the bunker was never fit to protect the people inside, or get them inside in time, but costed 2 billion “deutsche Mark” and had been built, more or less to “have one”, because all the others had one. The really impressive pictures and thick walls, doors and expensive equipment, triggered a few bad feelings and thoughts about mankind, governements and how they tend to kill each other instead of working together, making the world a better place and leading mankind to the future.

In the end it was a really great day, ending with a nice walk after the visit in the mountains surrounding and sitting with jselzer in the sun talking about life. We also visited Ahrweiler for a short time and traveled back to Bonn in the afternoon. I recommend to all interested persons, to visit the bunker themselves, the impressions and the storys are totally worth it. Prices, pics and how to find it, are listed on the website.

But this is worth it. By the way I have a 2 year aniversary this month. I wanted to visit lost places, and do some urban exploration for a long time. And as I live in Bochum, which is located directly inside the Ruhr-Area which has been the most industrial area in Germany for a long time, there’s a lot to see. But it took a girl I met, who took me to an abandoned place located near Bonn, to wake up my love for this hobby. Shortly after we went to a place with a lot of old industry, which is enhanced at night with colored light.

Freshly infected, I used the next free weekend I could find, when my best friend was visiting, to visit the next place. It was located, as the previously mentioned place, in Duisburg. It has been a sintering site for a lot of years and has been left and not demolished. I did really enjoy it, and will not make many words about it, but post all the pictures we took and say again, how GREAT this has been. I also made an Urban exploration map, which lists the places I’ve already visited and I will add more in near future!

Here you can find a map which shows, how to enter the site properly and where u can get upstairs.

Last, I uploaded a lot of pictures sorted in the order three people took them here.

I hope you enjoy the pictures as much as I enjoyed the trip. Thanks to publikumsbeschimpfung and Jiffies for joining me.

I also created a list of websites I liked during my journey though the internet to find this place:

http://www.lipinski.de/industrie/ – German industry places DE

http://www.infiltration.org – International places EN

http://www.lost-history.net/ – Blog about lost places and bunkers DE

Both websites contain a big list of further links.

Today I found a nice Video by Andrew Wonder named Undercity , which I found really amazing. Its showing the tunnels under NYC. I totally recommend watching it.

I’ve been busy lately so its been a little while. Most of you might know, that I’ve been part of the Labor Hackerspace in Bochum since a few years and part of the managing board most of this time. I’ve been doing alot of organisational work like comunication with our landlord, the neighbours, craftspeople and suppliers. I’ve been taking care that our stocks of Club Mate, and alot of other caffeine containing drinks, were never depleted. Doing all this work, caring for the people and doing some hacking and other tech work there over a long time made me feel part of a great project and putting alot of effort and time in it. The space I will be remembering has been a great place, full of live, creativity and inspiration, I’ve never seen as much enthusiasm and unity, all working for one goal, as there.

But times change, and after all this time, there were a few changes which made me step down from my post and leave the space a few weeks ago. In fact there were a few more people leaving which had been part of the crew running this space for years, but I will concentrate on the facts which affected me here, because this would go beyond the scope of this blog post. I’m writing this text after I have found easy and comfort at home and the time to think about all that happened. This text is not inteded to be a “rant” targeting the people which were part of the post. My intention is to tell a story from which you, who might be running a hackerspace yourself, can learn and try to prevent several trends I will be telling about.

I first noticed a change in our spacea bout one year ago shortly before the Labortage in 2009. Some people started to undermine the work I did, which was at that time trying to get a sponsoring deal with the local ISP. I wanted get a highspeed fiberwire uplink for streaming high quality video and audio in both directions to make it possible to join the talks given in the lab, virtually, from places and hackerspaces all over the world. At this time, I was working on all teams in the lab, org, administration, tech support and all the work between the groups to keep them talking to each other. I didn’t know at that time why they started attacking what I build, but today I think it was some kind of domination play. There were rumors at that time, that I am far to “powerful” in the space and had a way too big self-confidence because I had influence on anything and because of the early election shortly after I joined. At that time I didn’t really think about it and felt hurt and stopped the efforts in that direction. Shortly after and a few discussions later, my access to several systems vanished and again, I thought “hey, I don’t have to invest time if you don’t want me to” and the some more of my administration work died. My projects were a central database and member management service for a central login for all labor-related services and a kvm qemu based virtualisation, which should have refunded the big root server the space couldn’t really afford. After I left the admin team without a word and backed down, there was a little time of quiet before it started over again.

At this time I have to mention the following two things:

Don’t back down without fully investigating situations like this, because there will be alot of hidden anger going on after this, by you and the other people. Later I got knowledge of a meeting during this time, where they brought alot of false accusations agains me, nobody told me, until now. This wouldn’t have been possible if I had done more about this. For me it ended in a constant level of anger because they kept deleting my work and declare it untrue afterwards. Proving it my logs wouldn’t help, they are roots

Alot of people were treated the same way, and backed off like me, so a single person could get more and more power himself. According to the Hackerspaces Design Patterns there must never be a leadership of a single person. Be aware of that problem. Always talk open, so all people can listen or there will be space for machinations.

At this point I have to get into greater detail so anyone can understand the context: In my opinion, a hackerspace, is a place where the collective technical work, knowledge and exchange should be the main topic. For that purpose there should be as many shared facilities like in all big hackerspaces. When people started leaving because they didn’t like how things were going, some people stood up because they noticed the change and were ignored. I made the mistake to underestimate the problem and so they left too. At that point the influence of the people who didn’t want “hacking” any more at the hackerspace and loved to use the space as a place to live, meet and party had grown much stronger. This is another thing the hackerspace design patterns warn of.

Soziales im Labor

There are two graphs indicating the common option of the people at the lab which werecreated by Jiffies (@theJiff) on the basis of the logs from “problem solving meetings” that took place last month. I decided against puting the logs itself here because I don’t want any names included in this.

At the point where I noticed that I had to change a few things, the democratic made decisions often succeeded only because the people that were caring for the space were coming to the montly decision-making-meeting called the “bootstrap”. As I kept enforcing things throug the bootstrap, like not-sleeping over more than one or two days, or having a hardware-based router which anybody could access, the pressure on me grew stronger. There was a girl sleeping over since over 3 weeks, there were people having their servers running for weeks in the space, while co

Technik im Labor

mplaining about power-saving and nobody was interested in keeping the space clean at all. (See the pics I took a few days before I left.) Also there were people from a completely different political spectrum, not technical at all, fighting all day about political ideology. There were few people left to fight with me for the labor to be a hackerspace again, there was no hacking left at all. There had been an event, where I had to protect a member of the space from being kicked out for false pretences, which weekened my position again.

The Pics: 1 2 3 4 5 6

The end came quickly and dirty. At some day, they started to insult people I liked most there for beeing a problem in the hackerspace, and as I heard this I decided to give up the efforts I did since more than a year. I realized that the space was not any more, and wouldn’t ever be again, the place I had loved so much. I started to end up with my work, give some issues to others and only tried to finish the work I had told I would do. At that time I kept beeing angry because all those things, like the rest of the managing board fearing to stand up for the things on which they agreed with me because they wanted to be reelected to write it down in their CV, and all the people not caring about the problems, and all the people that left instead of making the space big again. Beeing under great pressure and beeing angry and all those things can make you ill, and thats what I spent the last 2 months with. So I left Bochum and traveled to Bonn to live with my parents and get well again and do the rest of my study for this semester. During this period there were several meetings I could not attend to. But at the moment I read the logs, the people meeting were writing, I decided to leave the space and the work left immediately.

There were accusations I couldn’t even laugh about, like I would be blackmailing the people who like me in leaving the lab, and me beeing manipulative or even personal stuff like two girls claiming having had an affair with me. They call me a hacker, brainhacking is one of the things im doing but I think its nothing that should be needed in a space full of hackers. Even if I had, and I definately didn’t have, it wouldn’t be a thing to discuss in a meeting about changing the hackerspace, especially not if I’m not taking part of this. Today I think one of them wanted to get back her ex-boyfriend who hates me. I won’t go into greater detail this time. Be aware of personal problems in your hackerspace and keep those people both out until they have sorted out the problem.

My Monument

I’m writing this text looking back to the whole story and my fazit is a good one: Its good for both sides I left, I’m alot more calm now and healthy and they will be more happy in their group now. Sometimes its time for a split. I wish only the best to the Labor and I’m greatful for all the good years and all I learned and experienced there. Hackerspaces are a really nice concept and I will join others in the future for sure! In german you say “etwas an den Nagel hängen”, I did exactly this when I build some kind of monument in my flat which reminds me of the really good past of the labor and many things I experienced there and I will add new stuff every time I do new hackerspaces concerned stuff.

In the end, the last sentence, I want to say something about friends and friendship: I had a lot of good friends there and I lost some of them. But those situations show you who your real friends are. There were some that never asked me and just fed on what they told them, some of them even never told me the reason why they don’t like me anymore. Some of them just say I would be making the world look like I want it to be. Saying I don’t care wouldn’t be true, some of them were important to me, but obviously they don’t think about friendship like I do. Such moments are in a way great, I now know again that my best friends are still with me and know about words like “Truth”, “Honor” and “loyality”.

yours,

Hey there,

I had some friends complaining the last days, that they are not able to see an (ex-)friends profile details any more, because they quit their friendship in some social network. I’m a friendly person, and this might be help for stalkers or other freaks, but I started thinking about a generic approach to get those “hidden” information.

Technical solutions are neither platform independant nor realizable by the “normal” people, not related to advanced hacking. So I began to plan a social engineering approach. Your could easily write a person, and think about some excuse to make a contact and after a few messages, maybe earlier you could send a friendship invitation and hope the target person accepts it. Depending on how actively the person uses the social network, this could take some days, and maybe its the better thing to do for a long-term “monitoring”. But depending on the case, you need to create and maintain a fake account, until it looks realistic enough to contact someone.

I wanted to make the progress more efficient and I thought about the information you can use, because of the fact its a “social” network where the person is expected to share certain information. In the case of studivz you can mostly view the following information:

First name (Mostly a part of the second name)

former school

age or year of graduation

In this case most of the people in studivz have the so called general qualification for university entrance which meens they have (until last year) attended school 13 years. Most of the schools publish photos of the graduated class on their website close-captioned with the names of the people you see. There are alot of alternative sources for those photos, like newspapers archives, related profiles to this person and other social networks, which you can use to enumerate people out of the target persons former life.

With this list, you can start looking for a person out of this class, who has no profile in this social network, and mostly there are a few, and start to use the hole in the network and all the really existing relations to get your perfect fake profile running. Some skills with photoshop and you can make out of the yearbook photo a profile picture everybody knows and start contacting all the friends on the list. At that size of people you will have fast alot of friends, mostly the first few after some hours. Now the time has come to send a friendship invitation to the target person. No excuses, not a single message needed, and most likely he/she will accept the invitation to grow his/her network.

Of cause there are some cases in which you wont have the luck, maybe because the person is closely in contact to the person you impersonate or maybe they were some kind of hating each other. But there should be a few other “friends” on the list you could try out, and dont forget to get the other fake profile you created on your friends list, so the work is not for the trash. (Only if it is not burned already)

Sooner or later, fake profiles, which are created that closely in an existing and real social relation might not last that long like one created and introduced in a longer time. So which of both approaches you choose depends on the situation. And look at it the other way, maybe there is already some account like that in you friendslist?

I spent some time on learning how to build your own keymap for your own hardware. First I noticed, that there are two levels you have to configure:

Console Level: If you do not use your x environement all the time, you need to set up a console keymap, so that you can use special signs with your passwords, and maybe do coding stuff and such tings lowlevel. There are two ways of getting a working keymap, first is to steal one out of ubuntu, which makes your keyboard work like in MacOS or you build your own. I wanted a standard keylayout in german for my mac, so that I can code as I’m used to it.

Xorg-Level: Xorg decided not to use this all time screwed console-level keymanagement, but implemented its own. In my debian version, I had a really fancy, nearly complete layout for all the standard keys. But all special keys, like pipe, at, euro, and all the brackets and bracers I luv to use for my hacking, were not working and I had to add em. The tool I used is xmodmap, which comes with the xorg-server naturally.

After all this searching and reading alot of manpages, I discovered, its not that hard to build all this, but there is alot of confusing stuff, so I added alot of comments to my config files so that others, maybe like you can learn from them. You can download them at the end of this post. Have a lot of fun…

Thursday, I’ve been at Dormund city for a good friend who was going to get a tattoo. After the visit at the studio, with a finished new tatoo shaped like a shamrock with a sixteen in it, we went to starbucks and afterwards I took the train home. Bored by the lack of entertainement in german trains, and caffeinated by Starbucks best white coffee moccha, I kept listening to the people sitting around me in the compartement. There were several persons sitting inside the train, but only one that extroverted or maybe unquiet might be the better word. The wore a pantsuit and she had strictly tightened hair. She was talking to a person I couldn’t see at first, but later I got to know that he was a collegue of her.

When I entered the train, she directly noticed my presence and as she told something loud to her counterpart I turned my head to see a face not really fitting in the rest of the picture she tried to make herself look like. And as I passed by, she already had catched my eye and told her collegue in a loud and really anerving voice “he turned and looked at me, really cool” (german: “Alter dreht der sich um, krass!”) in a way that allowed to speculate about her educational background. In the same second, I scolded myself for having prejudged about her and sat down near to keep listeing at her.

She started talking about her favourite hobby doing cosplay and talking about her best friends who were all men. That She can’t really get along with other girls and that they are all little bitches not able to handle that their boyfriends are chummy with her. She told that cosplay is a really costly hobby and then she started to explain why she loves it. This made totally clear why other men like and girls don’t like her. To make it short in this post, he told that she loves to be the thin and sexy one with not alot cloth covering her body between the fat clichee girls who flee in these fantasy worlds and that she loves to feel better then the rest. She started talking about all kind of media starting with manga and movies, continuing to normal tv shows and gliding in the social order descending towards tv shows like “Frauentausch” and “We are family”.

At that point I started to realize, that the girl must be watching TV all day and sitting in front of her computer at the same time to get to know all that bullshit. I thought about all the times my mother told me to get out instead of wasting my time with TV and how glad I am, that I’m not missing out all the great opportunities in this world like she does. The rest of the short travel to Bochum, she told about her “job”, which was a short-time employment mediated by the job center and that her great plans are to get her Certificate of secondary education (ger. “Hauptschulabschluss”) until she was 25. I think she was 19 or 20 maybe, so I could easily make a guess what she spent her time with since she left school with ~16 or sooner.

I had some really weird association with the blade movies I watched muliple times, she, the vampire, limited to the night and darkness of consumption and in cmparison, me, the daywalker who can enter the sunlight, take a deep breath and enjoy the warmth which the knowledge and curiosity emit. To make the analogy complete, the vampire must be hurt by the sunlight, which might be, in this case, possible by the clarity she might get how she behaved all her life. “You know theres a rule here, we don’t free people over a certain age from the matrix”.

My last thought about that at the moment is, that I know, and you know, how many of this kind are out there, and how they mess up our world every day by infecting the world through there children, who will be like them in future. So what might be better, letting them suffer by letting them know how to take a walk in sunlight, or will we make them become more and more everyday and live in peace. The statistics tell us, that people of that kind have mostly alot of more children then academics and teachers. And the system keeps failing.

This post has alot of loose shreds of thoughts and rose over the last nights I wasn’t able to sleep. So please read it if u like and think about it, but don’t start to discuss with me, got enough of that the last days. Another night is half over and I’m going to bed now. Have a nice night.
